There was a point this summer when it seemed like everybody was talking about Stranger Things. If you hadn’t watched it, you needed to, just to understand every cryptic reference to demogorgons, the number 11, and perhaps most confusingly, Eggo waffles. At least, that’s what happened to us, and halfway through the first episode, we were hooked. It was like Goonies meets Close Encounters of the Third Kind, and even though we knew the show was banking heavily on intoxicating people with a hearty dose of ’80s nostalgia, we weren’t mad about it.
Given the show premiered in late summer, it’s not likely to appear in most costume shops, which also makes it ideal inspiration for your Halloween costume. Suicide Squad may be in full force, but people will really flip out when they see your Upside-Down-traversing crew.

The shag haircut is crucial here. Beyond that, all you really need is a set of string lights, a pretend ax and a wide-eyed stare as you shout “Will?!” and you’ve pretty much got Winona’s look on lock.
