5 reasons to get psyched for gameday

Football season is almost upon us, which means it’s time to relish in the opportunity to paint your face, shout your head off without causing a scene and tailgate to your heart’s content. Amp up that “gameday’s coming” energy with these 5 tricks:

Create Your Lucky ______________.

Gameday attire doesn’t have to be confined to jerseys and jorts. Plenty of brands are expanding their clothing lines for more stylish options (even Laguna Beach‘s Kristin Cavalleri is getting in on the action), but hands down, our favorites are the outfits you guys create yourselves. And if your team happens to win every time you wear your favorite shirt, dress or anklet? Even better.

Binge on Friday Night Lights

Tami Taylor, forgive me. I brushed off your show the entire time it was on air, thinking it was another soapy drama featuring 30-year-olds playing whiny teenagers. And then I watched an episode. And now I’m binging on all the small-town, football-addled mania Dillon, TX has to offer. You’ll get sucked in too, I promise. (It’s on Netflix, so you have no reason not to lose a weekend in it. Well, unless you have a social life or something.)

Understand the Basics So You Can Trash-Talk Like a Champ

All those “hey ladies, learn these football terms so you can get a boyfriend!” articles gross me out. How about learning about the game so you can enjoy it more, regardless of whether you’re male or female? Or so you can trash talk with the best of ’em? This article gives you the basics (and not from a do-this-to-impress-someone angle), and this one breaks down the new college football playoff system.

We’ve all seen these movies. In fact, you probably had to watch them in school when your gym teacher decided to get all inspirational (or just got sick of yelling at kids to stop hanging out under the bleachers when they should be running the mile). But, unlike that documentary on the miracle of birth, this is something you’d want to watch, again and again, because hey, it really is inspirational. And entertaining. Plus, it’s Sean Astin at his non-Hobbit-y best, and Hayden Panettiere at her feistiest.

“Get on the Bus with Coach Taggart”

This video isn’t the typical, “we’re gonna mess you up, suckas!” football promo video to rev people up about the season, and that’s what I love about it. It’s lighthearted, it’s fun and it most definitely will get lodged in your brain so that three days later, as you’re waiting in line at Starbucks, you’ll randomly mumble, “Let Coach T drive this bus!” Watch it here.
