The dorm guide to Thanksgiving sides

Thanksgiving traditions are like clandestine reality TV show addictions — everybody has ’em (come on, admit it). While people will wait until their roommate’s in class to watch Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew, most people are thrilled to gush about their grandmother’s orange-infused sweet potatoes and the blissful scent of roast turkey that wafts through the house as they watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

Even if you and your suitemates don’t seem to have anything in common, it’s hard to find a group of people who don’t love a juicy turkey (or tofurkey) and all the (gluten-free/sugar-free/dairy-free/okay, you get the point) trimmings. A pre-Thanksgiving dinner party is a great way to get everyone together, get talking and get excited about the holiday season.

It may sound like a massive undertaking, but all you have to do is set up a Facebook event, grab a stack of paper plates and plastic flatware, then have everyone claim a dish to bring so you don’t wind up with half a dozen pumpkin pies and a couple bags of chips  (not bad snacks, but there’s a strong chance everyone will feel sick afterward).

If you’re not sure what to make (and Gran won’t share her family recipes until you’ve earned them), here are a few ideas. Check back this Wednesday for for an alternative take on turkey and stuffing!
